Bij een foto schreef zijn zoon: This is a photo taken of my Dad in the 1940's on his 1938 Harley-Davidson VL. It was a flathead side valve motorcycle. He has said that the gas line would leak (they were rigid lines, not flexible as they are now) and would catch fire. He would stop, of course, throw gravel on the fire to put it out and clean it up tighten the line, start it up and ride away. He and some friends rode out to Sturgis, South Dakota in the 40's after the war was over.
Zijn vrouw Virginia schreef:
Ed was in the army for 2 years and 5 years in the army reserves. When he got out he worked for a trucking firm.
In 1953 he was laid off and then went to work for Rilco laminating Co. He worked there and then Rilco sold out to Weyerhaueser and then in 1983 Weyerhaueser closed the plant and 10 of the guys who worked there bought it and started it up again. Ed was one of them. It prospered and is still doing very well.
Ed retired and after a couple years he went back to work there as a salaried employee and then retired again a few years back. 2 years ago the plant called Alamco was purchased by Bell Pole so Ed did very well with his investment when he bought into it. Both our boys work there. Still do with the new Co.
Ed has done a lot of different things in his life. I don't remember the year when he inlisted in the Air Force Air National Guard. He went up to the Cities one weekend a month for about 18 years and 10 days of active duty once a year. It at times made him miss out on a lot of things but now when he gets an air force pension it paid off.
He worked for a farmer on his days off and when he worked nights he worked days for the farmer. Then when he worked days at the plant he worked for a trucking firm as a diesel mechanic and he also drove gas transport for him. He is a worker for sure and now he is slowing down. His mind wants to do things but his body won't let him.
He had quadruple by-pass 15 years ago and maybe 10 years ago he had a pacemaker put in. He has been cancer free for several years, 10 at least.
