Albert "Junior" Pater, 96, of Blackduck, MN passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Serenity Living Solutions in Blackduck, MN.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 5:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Blackduck, MN. Visitation will be held from 4 - 5:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #372 of Blackduck. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
Albert was born on May 13, 1928 in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Gerrit and Minnie (Janssen) Pater. The family moved to Tenstrike, MN when he was 9 years old. He attended the Tenstrike School and graduated from there after completing the 8th grade. He enlisted in the US Army in 1945. Albert married Karen O'Brien on October 15, 1949 and made their home in Tenstrike, MN. He worked at the Cleveland Cliffs Mine in Coleraine, MN for many years. They moved to rural Blackduck in 1967.
Over the years Junior worked as a self-employed farmer and logger and he did a lot of other odd jobs. As a farmer he raised cattle. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, eating out (he knew all the good restaurants), hauling cows and B.S.'ing with friends and family. He also enjoyed going to the Bagley Sales Barn. Grandpa loved fixing up old trikes, wagons, scales, wheelbarrows and a tractor for his family and friends.
He spoiled all of his grandkids (they could do no wrong), and he loved bringing farm animals to them. He loved going to his great grandkid's games, but probably considered their concerts a good excuse to just get out and visit. He also enjoyed taking his grandkids to the Crookston Winter Shows. He was everyone's "Grandpa Junior". There wasn't a person he didn't know, and if he didn't know you, you knew him by the end. He had a voice that everyone knew.
